Day 1 Alice Springs to Kata Tjuta & Uluru
(Lunch & Dinner)
It's through the James and Waterhouse Ranges to our first stop: an Outback Camel Farm! See the world from a camel's hump if you choose to go for a ride (at own expense). Next we're off to Uluru, past the ancient Hugh and Finke River Systems and Mount Connor as we travel through the desert. Spectacular Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) will leave you amazed. Discover some of the secrets of this fascinating and ancient landform as you hike the Valley of the Winds. This evening, relax with a glass of Australian sparkling wine as the sun sinks slowly behind Uluru (Ayers Rock). Soon the outback sky will darken, and after a delicious dinner you'll be mesmerised by its starry brilliance before falling asleep in your safari accommodation. (LD) Accommodation: Safari accommodation, Ayers Rock Resort campground. -
Day 2 Uluru to Kings Canyon
(Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
We're up before dawn this morning and the reward is a magnificent Uluru sunrise. While the morning's fresh (and your legs are too!) enjoy an unguided walk around the base of Uluru. Deepen your understanding of the land and its stories at the Cultural Centre, where you have the chance to look at and purchase Indigenous arts and crafts. In the afternoon we head to Kings Canyon, in time for a superb meal before settling down for the night in your safari accommodation. (BLD) Accommodation: Safari accommodation, Kings Canyon resort campground -
Day 3 Kings Canyon to Glen Helen
(Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
There's a lot to explore at Kings Canyon and we hike the 'Rim' to see the Amphitheatre, Lost City, Garden of Eden and the sheer outcrops of the North and South walls. After lunch, we travel along the Mereenie Loop Track. We pass the 140 million year old meteorite crater, Gosse Bluff as we travel towards Glen Helen, nestled in the western end of the majestic MacDonnell Ranges. (BLD) Accommodation: Safari accommodation, Glen Helen -
Day 4 Glen Helen to Alice Springs
(Breakfast & Lunch)
Discover the spectacular geological features of Ormiston Gorge, before morning tea at historic Hermannsburg Mission, established by Lutheran Missionaries in the 1870's. There's time to explore but be sure to visit the art gallery, which features original paintings by Albert Namitjira. Prepare for some 4WD action as we travel along the ancient track of the Finke River to Palm Valley and Cycad Gorge, exploring what was once a prehistoric inland sea. You will spot Livistonia Mariae, a tropical palm and one of the rarest trees in the world. The spectacular Western MacDonnell Ranges will continue to impress you as we return to Alice Springs. (BL) -
