  2. Day 2 Flinders Ranges

    (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

    Flinders Ranges

This morning the legendary lilac haze of the Flinders Ranges looms ever closer in the distance. You are now in the habitat of Australia's famous wildlife, including not only kangaroos and emus in abundance, but also many species of birds and reptiles. From here your guide will continue to the heart of the Flinders Ranges through vast sheep station country. We break for lunch in the historic township of Quorn, the home of the Pichi Richi Railway and the site of many Australian made films. Later we'll visit Arkaroo Rock and other significant indigenous art locations. The paintings at these sites are commonly dated around 6000 years old and the rock engravings, thought to be much older possibly dating back tens of thousands of years are testament to the rich cultural heritage of the Flinders Ranges. Tonight you will stay at the Wilpena Pound Resort situated at the entrance to Wilpena Pound and enjoy a fabulous dinner surrounded by a natural bush land with abundant native flora and fauna. (BLD)

    Wilpena Pound to Adelaide

Early morning, there is an opportunity to take an optional scenic flight over the Wilpena Pound landscape. After breakfast, our journey takes us through the Bunyeroo, Brachina and Parachilna Gorges, over hills and ridges, along riverbeds and through gullies. The Prairie Hotel is an historic 'outback pub' situated along the original Old Ghan Railway Line at Parachilna and is where we break for lunch. It's well known internationally for the cuisine served, particularly its feral produce including kangaroo and emu (with many other meals available!). Then relax and enjoy the scenery as we make our way back to Adelaide. (BL)
